Delegate & let Go!

This is Step Two in the “Saving Time: Working Less & Launching More” eCourse Series

Did you know that the most successful entrepreneurs learn this secret early?  They pick someone who will get the job done well and then just let them get to it.  Both in your family life and in your business life – you need to learn to delegate and let others take care of responsibilities that really don’t need to be done by you. This will save you tons of time that you can redirect to working on launching.

When working from home, you need to learn how to delegate with household chores that suck your time and energy that you can be using to work on your business. So you need to learn how to delegate at home and in your business so you can grow.

Sure, your VA, spouse or kids will not do it exactly the same way you do, first time out.  But tell them what you liked and what needs working on (and in that order, please).

Take the “how can we make this better” approach rather than nagging or blaming or sighing or any other negative message that makes it no fun to work with us anymore.

And remember, delegating will help you feel better and think with a clearer mind, it will save you more time that you can dedicate to what you love doing most and spending more time with your family.

Trust me; I know this is really tough to do at first.  (And I still can’t delegate a few things sometime.) But it must be done.

If you are anything like me, you can’t think on work when you have your mind cluttered with pending house work. It’s like you can hear the dishes calling you from a distance. (“Alba, please clean me!”)

So round up the family squad, tell them what needs to be done and let them know that by helping you, you can work faster and have more free time for them.

So ignore the fact that your son’s underwear isn’t rolled up in nice little packages, the way you do it – it’s in the drawer, isn’t it?  (And you didn’t have to put it there!)
Ignore the fact that your spouse took the kids for ice cream after their basketball game when you prefer them to get straight home to bed.
They’ll remember the ice cream and the unexpected fun with dad long after they remember any of their games.

And now it’s time to turn our attention to your work-at-home business…

You have some more free time, GET TO LAUNCHING!

Alba, I have such a hard time delegating…I think, this will only take me a minute to do. Typically it does, but what about the 15 times I do that one thing every week. Good to look at where I can stretch myself and receive from others.

I am guilty of this. I find myself saying “oh, it will only take a minute”. But then it’s an hour and I’m still doing it. What I have learned is that this is a form of procrastination. So when I catch myself doing it I stop and get to work!

The problem with not wanting to let go is usually because we think that we’ll be able to do it better than anyone else. But that’s when we need to learn to trust others and give them space so they can help us. :)
